Bone Morphogenetic Protein
Bone morphogenetic protein is an isolated protein that induces specific cells in our body to form new cartilage and bone. During surgery, the BMP is soaked onto and binds with a collagen sponge. The sponge is then designed to resorb, or disappear, over time. As the sponge dissolves, the bone morphogenetic protein stimulates the cells to produce new bone. The BMP also goes away once it has completed its task of jump-starting the normal bone healing process.
Since there is no need to harvest bone from the patients’ hip for BMP, recipients were spared donor site pain. Complications from the graft harvest site are also eliminated with the use of bone morphogenetic protein.

I had an exceptional experience at La Jolla Dental Boutique with all the procedures I had done, including teeth cleaning, x-rays and an exam with Dr. Irene, replacement of old fillings, an extraction, and an implant. The staff is very friendly, informative and easy to work with. The hygienist performed the most thorough cleaning I can ever remember having! I scheduled an appointment to replace some old fillings and I am very pleased with the result! I later had a tooth extraction and was nervous, but Dr. Irene made it seem easy. She is kind and made sure to explain the procedures as well as aftercare. She has a gentle touch and really put me at ease. At another appointment, Dr. Erez performed an implant for me under sedation. The sedation and the procedure were both successful! I did not experience any discomfort during the procedure and I have gone on to heal without incident. The assistants in the office are so nice and they all seem to work well together! I can highly recommend La Jolla Dental Boutique for your dental care.
